    MESSAGE FROM EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

In addition to our Newsletter sharing news about the work of MenHealing, we will begin to include periodic “Messages from MenHealing’s ED” to offer commentary about important matters.

For example, in the present moment it seems important to acknowledge the distress many of us may be experiencing as we are engulfed by tumultuous cultural events. As male survivors and allies, each of us is vulnerable to internal triggers when we are bombarded by media reports of ever-increasing incidents of violence. We may feel the pain of isolation as we witness efforts to erase basic human rights of others or ourselves. We are susceptible to absorb rage about acts of injustice. During times like now, it is especially important that we embrace the power of hope. Reach out to others and share your feelings. Join with others to create community. Use the skills that have served your own healing. Seek opportunities for active involvement where you feel you can help to make change. And remember:

    TOGETHER WE ARE STRONGER.

Jim Struve, Executive Director of MenHealing

    NEW VIDEO RELEASES

HEAL (Helping Everyone Accept Love) was a webinar hosted by MenHealing on June 14th. This webinar featured a virtual premiere of “Gentle Man,” a new release by Soren Song (a survivor who is also a singer/songwriter from New York). The premiere was followed by a trauma-informed panel discussion about healing.  Here is access to the video of this webinar.

We have expanded the video collection from the April 10th “Voices of Healing: Trans and Nonbinary Survivors SPEAK OUT” Live Event.  In addition to the full-length video of the Live Event, individual videos for each of the four presenters are being released separately. The first two are available now with the other two presentations being released in the next couple of weeks.

    OUTREACH AROUND THE WORLD

The SW Londoner (England) newspaper recently published a comprehensive article that focused on male survivors of sexual victimization.  Jim Struve (MenHealing Executive Director) is one of the people quoted in the article and a couple of segments of video footage from his interview are also included. Special thanks to the reporter, Ayisha Sharma, for excellent coverage about male survivors.

NEW RESOURCE MATERIALS ADDED TO WEBSITE

Whether YOU are a survivor or an ally, we invite you to access the wealth of informational materials available at the Resources section of our MenHealing website. We have recently created a PDF guide in two parts that includes several examples of some TRUTHS AND UNTRUTHS about male survivors. This and other resource materials at our website are available for YOU to download and use for YOUR purpose of education and outreach. We also welcome your requests and suggestions for additional materials to help us expand our library of resources.

CONSIDER MAKING A DONATION TO MENHEALING in honor of 2022 GIVE OUT DAY, a month-long fundraising campaign (June 1st – 30th) for organizations that serve LGBTQIA+ communities. We invite YOU to consider donating an equal amount to FORGE, an organization with which MenHealing maintains on-going collaborations.

The website is used by over 10 million individuals and corporations each year to analyze where they would like to direct their charitable contributions. Additionally it is used by Amazon Smile, Facebook, Network for Good, Crowdrise, and the Fidelity, Schwab and Vanguard donor-advised funds to determine non-profit status for receiving aggregate and trust contributions.

    REGISTRATION IS OPEN FOR
WHIDBEY LEVEL 1 WEEKEND OF RECOVERY

Please note that we have implemented our new “Pay What Can Afford” registration process for our 2022 WORs:  if you are unable to pay the entire cost, we allow you to submit payment for an amount that better reflects your budget.  We do require a minimum payment of 10% of the actual cost.

A reminder that MenHealing is a grassroots organization. 85% of our financial support is received from individual donors and 15% from event registrations. We do not receive any funding from government or foundation grants. Our work is possible because of the generous donations from individuals like YOU.

We especially want to thank the growing community of regular sustaining donors. We encourage YOU to become a monthly or quarterly recurring donor.  Recurring financial support is exceptionally valuable in 2022 as we implement our new “Pay What You Can Afford” event registration fee structure.

To MenHealing Weekends of Recovery Alumni, Friends, and Supporters

We invite you to view our new PROMOTIONAL VIDEO FOR UPCOMING WEEKEND OF RECOVERY EVENTS. This brief video provides an engaging visual teaser about the in-person events we have scheduled during the first half of 2022. Thanks to Jordan Masciangelo (WOR Alumnus and MenHealing Creative Director) for his creative work on this production.

If you have not already done so: a reminder to access the more in-depth video (thirty minutes) about the Weekends of Recovery.

CELEBRATING TWENTY YEARS OF HEALING VIDEO features several WOR Alumni and Facilitators sharing their experiences about the profound healing impacts of the Weekends of Recovery. This video was released in October 2021 after the Twentieth Year Anniversary of the WOR program.

MenHealing continues to expand our services beyond the flagship Weekends of Recovery program. Check out the landing page for our ever-growing HOME PROJECT (HEALING OUTREACH FOR MEN EVERYWHERE).

Since September 2021, the HOME project has twice released information about the impact of sexual assault and resources for recovery to 45,000 incarcerated individuals in Ohio State Prisons. Information is uploaded and distributed via individual computer tablets. Learn more
