To MenHealing Weekends of Recovery Alumni, Friends, and Supporters

If you are the kind of person who, during the season of giving, likes to give to organizations changing the world, please consider a financial donation to MenHealing.

Join us in our goal to raise $100K during the final 100 Days of 2022. YOUR DONATION OF ANY AMOUNT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE FOR MALE SURVIVORS.

This week’s Newsletter will focus on the areas of our work that need your support if their work is to continue for 2023. We depend upon grassroots financial support from individual donors for 85% of our budget. MENHEALING PROJECTS THAT NEED YOUR FINANCIAL HELP TO THRIVE

Support Groups:  We continue to grow our services for on-line virtual access for Support Groups. This area of direct services is managed by a Weekend of Recovery Alumnus; group sessions are co-facilitated by Alumni Peer Leaders who have been trained in group dynamic skills

    • Current groups include:

      • 15-session support groups for Weekend of Recovery Alumni; new groups will continue to be launched approximately every 6 months

    • Future groups in planning for 2023:

      • 6-8 session support groups for survivors who have not yet attended a Weekend of Recovery

      • Groups for Partners of men / male-identified survivors

A website landing page will soon open to the public and will allow entry portals to register for waiting lists for Support Groups. Click HERE for more information.

Weekends of Recovery (WORs): Weekends and Days of Recovery remain a flagship of MenHealing services. Since September 2001 through fall 2022 (21 years!) we have conducted 94 WOR/DOR events.

    • New Event for 2023: We remain sensitive to reaching underserved populations of men and male-identified survivors. One expansion is the Melanated Survivors WOR (spring 2023): a healing and community-building experience for healers and survivors of color. For more information, contact Richard Smith or Kenton Kirby

    • Other Events for 2023 include:

      • Best Friends Service Project (April 2023):  An opportunity for WOR/DOR Alumni and MenHealing Facilitators, Board, and Support Staff to share service to the premiere organization that provides services for abused and neglected animals.

      • Advanced WOR (August 2023): the theme will focus on Empowering Love and Power in Relationships and will again be open for partners also to attend

      • Level 1 WOR (September 2023):  A healing environment for adult men and male-identified survivors to acquire skills, increase connection, and join a community of survivors.

The new Pay What You Can Afford payment structure we launched in 2022 will continue in 2023 to make our healing resources more accessible for survivors who experience financial barriers and difficulties.

Just Healing Podcast Series: Richard Smith will continue to host Just Healing, our new podcast series focused on the intersection of healing and social justice. Episodes released the last Friday of each month featuring survivors, healers, and change agents from across the country.

Video Production: We hope to continue expanding our growing video library, featuring men and male-identified survivors sharing incredible healing stories of hope and inspiration.

HOME Project (Healing Outreach for Men Everywhere): was initiated and is co-managed by a WOR Alumnus. The HOME project conceptualizes and creates educational materials about sexual victimization and has partnered with key individuals in the prison systems in Ohio and Indiana to upload the materials onto the tablets for incarcerated individuals in those states. The goal of the project is to provide real time tools for understanding and healing from the impact of sexual victimization. To date, the materials developed by the HOME project are accessible to 75,000 individuals. Materials are available at the HOME landing page at our website.

Special Projects: MenHealing engages in innovative activities that contribute to reaching new audiences. For example:

    • MenHealing was primary sponsor for the recent theatrical “Bonded” Stage-Reading event off-Broadway in New York City

    • Representatives of MenHealing are frequently sought out for media interviews and for participation in conferences, webinars, and community educational events

    • Plans are underway to develop more educational services via virtual online access

REMEMBER THAT FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTIONS FROM INDIVIDUAL DONORS LIKE YOU ARE THE LIFEBLOOD THAT ALLOWS MENHEALING TO CONTINUE OUR WORK. 85% OF OUR BUDGET IS RECEIVED FROM INDIVIDUAL DONORS; 15% OF OUR BUDGET IS RECEIVED FROM EVENT REGISTRATIONS. WE DO NOT RECEIVE FUNDING FROM FOUNDATIONS OR GOVERNMENT GRANTS. MALE SURVIVORS DEPEND UPON YOUR SUPPORT. Help us reach our goal of $100K in these final days of 2022.

Here are some ways YOUR donation contributes directly to help a survivor heal:

    • A $35 Donation will pay for six re-usable water bottles given to survivors at a WOR

    • A $50 Donation will pay for ten personal journals given to survivors at a WOR

    • A $200 Donation will pay for one month subscription for ZOOM platform used by MenHealing

    • A $295 Donation will pay 25% of the cost for one survivor to attend an in-person WOR

    • A $590 Donation will pay 50% of the cost for one survivor to attend an in-person WOR

    • A $880 Donation will pay 75% of the cost for one survivor to attend an in-person WOR

We especially want to thank the growing community of regular sustaining donors.

Consider whether YOU can join as a recurring donor at any amount.

Remember, YOU can forward this newsletter to anyone or any organization that you think might be interested. Thanks for spreading the word!
