Alumni/Volunteers/Staff Service Project/Hiking Weekend

This will be our third annual special Service Project/Hiking Alumni Weekend This innovative weekend will be conducted at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary located near Kanab, UT. The nearest airports to Kanab are St. George, UT. = 1 ½ hour; Las Vegas, NV = 3 hours; or Salt Lake = 5 hours. Please consider the distance when making your travel plans.
No one will be allowed to attend that cannot produce proof of COVID vaccination and CDC recommended boosters or medical exemption.
Best Friends is a safe haven for approximately 1,600 homeless animals. At the Sanctuary, animals are loved and given what they need to live their best lives until they find their forever homes. For some, it is a place of recovering and healing and for others it is their home between homes. Best Friends is the largest no-kill animal sanctuary in the United States and is the home base for Best Friends Animal Society.

Event Schedule
Three volunteer shifts will be scheduled at the Sanctuary, one each day for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). Participants will work together as a group in several of our animal care areas, and the tasks will depend on the needs of the Sanctuary. Some project examples are deep cleaning in the animal care areas, assisting with socialization, trail maintenance, landscaping, weeding, or painting. Participants will have an opportunity for a second session caring for animals or moderate-level hike on Saturday afternoon. This Alumni Service Project/Hiking Program will officially end at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, 4/23/22

Lodging
Lodging will be provided at the Kanab Red Hills Best Western Hotel. All participants will be guaranteed single occupancy rooms, each with a King-size bed. Participants can add an additional night and leave on Monday if they choose – additional night reservations will be needed to be made directly with the hotel.
Activities Before and After the Service project Weekend
You may want to arrive in the area early or stay beyond the event. There are many other things to do and see in the area.
A visit to nearby Bryce Canyon and/or Zion National Parks might be enjoyable. Bryce Canyon is within 90 minutes and Zion is within 40 minutes drive time from Kanab.

Registration Information
We are expecting high interest in this event. There is a maximum of 10 total slots available for this weekend. SAVE MY SPOT Registration will be open until April 7, 2023 or until spots are filled. After we reach our capacity number of registrations, we will collect a waiting list.
$150 will save your spot. The full registration fee is $610 for a single room (queen bed). If you have a spouse or other alumni with whom you would like to share a room (1 or 2 queen beds) the fee will be $445 per person.. The full registration fee includes 3 nights lodging (Thursday 4/20 through Saturday night 4/22), meals from Thursday dinner thru Sunday lunch, and all program fees.
All participants must pay the full registration fee for this Special Service Project.
