2021 Advanced Weekend of Recovery on
Connection, Relationship and Using Our Voice
A Collaborative Advanced Weekend that is open to all Alumni from either Taking Back Ourselves or MenHealing Communities
Finding Our Truth, Being Ourselves
...to that piece in each of us that refuses to be silent...*
*Audre Lorde: I have come to believe over and over again that what is most important to me must be spoken, made verbal and shared, even at the risk of having it bruised or misunderstood.
The 2021 MenHealing/Taking Back Ourselves Joint Advanced Weekend is open to all TBO or MH Alumni. Registration for this weekend will open on March 16th and close on July 9th. You are encouraged to register early, as we anticipate this weekend may fill quickly. All participants must be registered in advance of this event; NO walk-in registrations accepted.
ABOUT THIS WEEKEND
We invite our MH/TBO Alumnus to create an image of the self you know
at present and the self that you feel emerging as you heal.
We welcome you to the 2021 Advanced Weekend for TakingBackOurselves and MenHealing Alumni. Finding Our Truth, Being Ourselves Advanced Weekend will focus on recognizing the forces that sabotage recovery on all spectrums of gender, identity and with others and within oneself, with that piece that refuses to be silent.
With large and small group process, music, authentic movement, yoga, and art, our Alumni Weekend will deepen community and advance recovery especially in the places survivors are most often stuck, and enable you to celebrate and risk your full self in relation both to others and inside yourself with power and with joy.
We recognize how challenging connection can be, especially when one has suffered sexual and emotional violation. As a result, some may struggle with a history of harmful or difficult patterns of relating to others and to themselves. This is an opportunity to heal the wounds of relationship on many levels.
As always, both in our MH (who conducts Weekends of Recovery for male survivors) and our TBO (who conducts Weekends of Recovery for female survivors) communities, special attention will be paid to safety and boundaries both by the facilitators and within the community of participants.
The challenge of an advanced weekend is also its greatest gift: exploring the possibilities for deep repair and greater connection.
This Joint Advanced Weekend of Recovery will be conducted as an in-person event at the rustic Silver Bay YMCA in upstate New York.
Silver Bay is located 1 ½ hours east of Albany, 4 hours north of New York City, 4 hours northwest of Boston, and 4 hours east of Syracuse. For further information about Silver Bay, click here.
In compliance with CDC and New York Health Department recommendations for COVID-19 precautions at the time of this event, specific guidelines and procedures will be implemented to maximize safety for participants and Facilitators as well as Silver Bay staff.
- ALL participants will be guaranteed single room occupancy, with exclusive access to their individual lodging space for the duration of the weekend
- All meetings, meals, and other activities will be structured to insure recommended physical distancing protocols amongst our group and during interactions with others who may be present on-site at the same time as our event
- All participants, facilitators, and staff will be required to adhere to safety guidelines that are recommended by CDC during the time of our event, including physical distance/face masks/use of sanitizer protocols
Silver Bay YMCA – Conference and Family Retreat Center – is located on the shores of Lake George. The Center’s 700 acres campus inhabits beautiful waterfront on one of the cleanest lakes in the world within the Adironack Park of New York State.
The weekend is designed to provide a mixture of large group community activities and small group breakout sessions. Although we will be sharing the Conference Center with other groups for the duration of our weekend, we will have private spaces for our large and small group sessions. Large groups will be conducted in the spacious William Boyd Center, which includes adjacent spaces for small groups.
The Main Lodge provides comfortable lodging. For this event, all participants will be allowed single occupancy rooms, with the option for room sharing upon request.
The Weekend schedule will allow time for rest, relaxation, and reflection. You may want to join a mindfulness walk, a leisurely afternoon, or just share time with a peer from the comfort of the rocking chairs on the front porch.
Meals at Silver Bay will be of the highest quality. Special dietary requests are easily available. All of your food and snacks are included in your registration fees.
