Whidbey Institute inhabits a classic Northwest Forest, located about one hour north of Seattle (approximately 2 hours from SEATAC airport). The story of Whidbey Institute began in 1966 when founders Fritz and Vivienne Hull purchased a late nineteenth century Finnish Farm on south Whidbey Island.
Private meeting spaces are available for all Weekend of Recovery sessions. The weekend is designed to provide a mixture of full participant community activities and small group break out sessions. Special attention is given to creating safe environments that allow participation at whatever level is authentic for each participant.
Charming cabins provide comfortable lodging.
Whidbey Institute is carefully integrated into gardens and the forest ecosystem. The weekend incorporates mindfulness skills as a tool for managing difficult emotions such as anxiety. Gardens and a contemplative labyrinth provide a wonderful setting for expanded mindfulness and program activities
The weekend allows ample leisure time for reflection and to enjoy the restorative setting of an expansive Northwest Forest. This woodland sanctuary includes 4 miles of user-friendly trails and creates an environment of solitude. Optional time for meditation walks and a low-impact recreational hike are included in the program agenda.
Careful attention is given to nutritious food, much of it grown on the premises. The chef enjoys educating participants about the food being served at each meal. Special dietary requests are accommodated to insure that each participant has ample, high quality, and enjoyable food throughout the weekend. COVID precautions will be employed to insure safety of food handling and dining room interactions.
